Within this aspect of my visit to New York I was looking mainly towards the use of colour and how the marks had been applied.
Firstly I found this astrology piece within Grand Central Station to be intriguing as they had integrated lighting into the piece to emphasise the stars and draw you across the mural.
I find the way in which the paint had been applied to create texture to be inspirational, as it not only added contrast to these pieces but also to add form to the line and make it stand out and capture the attention of others more so.
I thought that the street artists work reminded me of that of Robert Rauschenberg as the way in which he had created an image over other colours and it still remained vivid and impactful.
The lines within the bike truck sign reminded me of the contours created within this piece with their contrast from black to another hue or shade. similar to some of the screen prints by Andy Warhol also like that of Elvis Presley that was situated in the next room.
The angular marks within Picasso's piece reminded me of the contours and tomes within the remains of the World Trade Centre statue from within the courtyard. Yet despite its harsh and somewhat disturbing story behind it left me admiring this piece within the gallery but having the memory of that statue constantly in my memory with vivid colour.
The harsh boundaries between different hues leaves an impactful outline to be followed and almost makes you stop and look into each section as if it were a separate piece and this is simply how it had been chosen to be presented.
