New York Experience #2 Structure

Within this post I aim to show the structures that I saw within my experience of New York aiming to show my perspective so a number of which will be of a vastly different perspective than photographs of structure that I would take in the areas around where I reside.

The nights skyline alters your perception of the sheer scale of the cityscape and the height of the skyscrapers almost gives you vertigo if you gaze straight down. I found that on a still night the structures are illuminated by bright white lights etching their form into your memory.
However on a more cloud covered and windy night the lights appear more yellowed and distorted with the occasional flare of white burning through.

I find the way the sun flares off the glass and steel of the office building illuminating the bulb housing of the street lamp re-contextualises the street lamp by altering where its shadows are visible from. With the splinter of light contrasting the clear, still blue sky giving leading lines to emphasise the structure of the buildings.

I find that the curvature of the flowing form creates an interesting display through its reflections and cast shadows.

I found that the setting sun adds greater emphasis to the form of the buildings with only peircing light from cars or traffic lights breaking up these harsh forms.

The support cables on the Brooklyn bridge split the sky but also leads you across the piece but the amount of cabling draws focus away from the cityscape however within this shot my focal point was to capture the structure of the bridge.

I like how the curvature of the building draws your focus onto the person on the other side of this rather unique structure where in which you are able to communicate clearly across the cross section whilst stood facing opposite directions in opposite corners. It was a experience that was unusual as it altered the way you listen to the area around you and could be rather disorientating.

New York Experience #1 light abstraction

Within these photographs I aim to show

I liked the way in which the lights in the tunnel blurred as they allowed for me to show the reflection in the glass giving the image another layer and showing depth within it.

With this shot I found that the smeared glass a distorted and distanced effect with the intense light spots showing more contours of the smears.

I find that the blurred light gives another layer to these images and I feel that they would create some nice overlays if I used them within cello tape transfers within collages or compositions to add depth to my work.

I found that the higher that I got the more difficult it was to get a clear photograph without the lights blurring, however you can still sometimes make out what the forms of the buildings are.

I find that these photos that I have created appear to be of the same style as Alexandra Pacula who creates distorted photographs within densely populated areas like London or New York, a similar context to my shots.

I found that with the strong sunlight those who had the novelty hats looked like the statue in their shadows cast onto the stone.

I like how the movement of people has blurred and the focal point i was trying to capture has remained clear and in focus allowing the movement to appear distanced from the rest of the piece almost as if it was another layer added after its capture.

I like how the light blurs appear to be overlaying the skyline as you can still make out the outlines of the buildings and the light lines move above it.

i find how the defined edges of the light have blurred has allowed the photo to appear out of phase but also with all the light sources intensified giving the appearance of more white light as oppose the the yellow hues that were present.
